Intensive English


This academic program is carefully designed to help you achieve your language-learning goals.
  • Placement test to accurately determine your starting level
  • 13 four-week sessions per year
  • The equivalent of 100 50-minute lessons per session
  • Unique, optional sixth hour daily at no extra cost
  • Nine levels of instruction
Classes meet Monday through Friday. Classes include listening, speaking, grammar, reading, writing, and core-plus courses for advanced students. See below for additional information regarding our core-plus courses.

Nine Levels of Instruction:

Beginning - Levels 1, 2, and 3

When you complete Level 3, you will be able to:
  • Communicate effectively in everyday situations
  • Utilize simple social and academic conversations with native speakers of English
  • Convey written and verbal information for social and academic purposes
  • Read a variety of materials appropriate for beginning levels

Intermediate - Levels 4, 5, and 6

When you complete Level 6, you will be able to:
  • Express yourself, orally and in writing, with ease and few errors on a full range of subjects
  • Correctly use the most common with grammatical structures
  • Read and identify technical and academic material in a familiar field
  • Write clearly while applying basic and intermediate English structures and vocabulary
  • Identify common phrases found in everyday communication

Advanced - Levels 7, 8, and 9

When you complete Level 9, you will be able to:
  • Discuss and understand information found in academic resources
  • Participate in conversations and panel discussions on social and academic topics
  • Write academic papers at a university level
  • Discuss and debate published materials, such as technical papers, novels, and professional journals
Please note: Levels may be combined at times depending on student enrollment and placement.

At advanced levels, you can focus your English study by attending core plus courses. You can work on areas that interest you or practice skills that your advisor recommends before you attend the university. Please note: Not all core plus courses are offered every session or at every center, but here is a selection of the offerings:
