Application and Acceptance Information

To apply for admission to one of The Language Company English institutes, please complete the application form included in this brochure and provide the necessary documents. The director of your institute will review your application and quickly respond by sending you an acceptance packet which includes banking information, arrival information, immigration documents, an I-20 if requested, and additional information about the institute you will be attending.

Arrival and Airport Information

Airport and arrival information will be included in your acceptance packet. Airport service is available at all institutes for a small fee (see application form).

Money and Banking

You should bring some money when you first arrive in the U.S. so that you can pay your tuition, buy meals, pay for housing, etc. We recommend that you bring traveler's checks or a credit card that you can use to withdraw cash. When you arrive at the institute, we will have a special day for banking, and you can open an account, cash your traveler's checks, or get cash on your credit card at that time. Please do not carry large amounts of cash. The best way for your family to send additional money to you is by wire transfer from their bank directly to your institute's bank account. You will receive detailed information about this process with your acceptance packet.

Immigration Counseling

It is very important for you to be aware of and follow the U.S. immigration regulations which apply to you. Directors of Admissions are informed about these regulations. They will assist you with accurate information about how to stay in status, how to transfer to a university, and what to do if you have a problem during your stay in the U.S.

Academic Placement Service

If you want to attend a college or university in the United States, we can assist you in gaining admission before you leave your country. We have excellent relationships with many universities and colleges all over the United States. This service is free for our students; you pay only the application fees that the universities charge. Please contact the director at the institute of your choice. Students who complete The Language Company's program at any of our eight English institutes are usually ready for college or university admission. Many schools waive the TOEFL requirement for our graduates, but others require a score of between 450/133 and 550/213 points.

Cultural Counseling

When you come to live and study in the U.S., you will have many experiences which are new and different. You have probably learned about the U.S. through movies, music, or television. You may be surprised to discover that these impressions are probably very different from real life in the U.S. All travelers must make adjustments to the culture they are visiting. Many of our staff have lived in or visited other countries, and they know how to help you if you have a problem.

Activities

You will study hard while you are at a Language Company institute, but you will also have time for recreation. Each institute sponsors many special events and activities which allow you to practice your English while learning about American culture and making friends. The Language Company institutes offer a variety of housing options, all carefully arranged for you by the director of your institute.
