About the Center

TLC - Shawnee is the oldest center of The Language Company and was founded in 1983. In 1999, the center moved from Norman to its present location in Shawnee.

Our school is located on the 3rd floor of Mark Braun Hall and our dormitory is located on the opposite wing of the same floor, so dormitory students enjoy the easy access to classes during the day.

Our class sizes are small, and average 6-8 students. The maximum size is 13 students and the minimum can be 1 or 2. We also offer private tutoring for an extra fee if students want to take one-on-one classes.

Our center size averages 20-25 year round, with higher populations from May – November (25-35) and smaller populations December – April (15-20).

Our top nationalities are Japanese, Korean, Ecuadorian, Taiwanese, Brazilian, Panamanian, and African.

Age Requirements:

Regular Intensive English – minimum age is 12 years (dormitory minimum is 18)
Study Vacation Program – minimum age is 10 years
Junior Intensive English Program – minimum age is 10 years or 5th grade

Weather:

[WINTER] Remember that the weather in Oklahoma is very versatile, so some days it can be warm and the next day freezing. Winter weather in central averages about 4.5 C; however, January and February are our coldest months so the weather will often be between -5 and even as warm as 18-20 degrees Celsius. Please bring a warm coat and winter items, but also cooler clothes that you can layer if we have a warm day. As a student you will spend a lot of time indoors where the heater keeps the climate very warm! Outdoor weather becomes warmer in March and April and will be "HOT" in the summer, so plan accordingly if you will study for several months. We frequently have shopping activities, so you can buy things you suddenly need, but it is better to come a little prepared.

[SPRING] Typically, during springtime some days it will be warm and the next day cool. Springtime weather is typically 6 – 25 degrees Celsius with an average daily temperature of 15 C. Please bring a light jacket or a rain coat and umbrella for spring rain showers. The weather will gradually warm up, especially in May and June, and will be "HOT" in the summer, so plan accordingly. If you are planning to study several months, be prepared for cool weather again in October and cold weather in December / January. Again, you can buy things that you may need here on one of our shopping trips, but it is better to come a little prepared.

[SUMMER] Remember that the weather in Oklahoma is very versatile, so most days it will be hot but all Oklahomans use air conditioning, so you may feel cold at school or at home. Summertime weather is typically 25 - 39 degrees Celsius with an average daily temperature of 27 C. You will not need a coat unless you plan to study several months since the weather will gradually cool down in September or October and become colder in November, December, and January.

[FALL] Remember that the weather in Oklahoma is very versatile, so some days it can be warm and the next day cool. Autumn weather is typically 5 – 20 degrees Celsius with an average temperature of 10 C. Please bring a light jacket and a heavier coat for the cold days. The weather will gradually become colder, especially in December, and may be very cold in January and February. If you are planning to study several months, be prepared for the weather to warm up again in March and even become hot in the summer.
